For those of our readers who may be interested in such matters, I offer two recent bibliographical essays. The first The Private Press and the Art of the Book has its genesis in an article I wrote as editor of the book arts issue of the Haworth Press serial "Special Collections" and was delivered in April 1995 as part of a series of seminars sponsored by the ABAA in April of 1995 at the New York Book Fair. It will shortly appear in print in Book Source Monthly, a journal of the antiquarian trade.

The second essay, The Mirror of the World: The Social Context of Book Collecting was read in April 1996 at the Books Collected symposium in memory of Ruth Mortimer given at Smith College. It may appear in printed form in the collected papers from that event in the coming year.
